Local Bocal November 2019

2019 Local Bocal 8 November 2019

Dear Double Reed Players,

We have organised an outdoors event to celebrate Christmas. As many of you know, 9th Ave St Peters is a hub of Christmas lights and activities. We have arranged to play Carols in a suitable space there on the evening of 15th December with a rehearsal on Wednesday 11th from 7.30-9.30 pm at Marryatville. It will be great fun and we are calling for registrations now.

Contact me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to let me know that you wish to play. You will need to share a stand, play standing(if possible, bring a chair if not)) and have a stand light as it will be dark, despite the myriad Christmas lights which will be festooning the street. We are hoping for a good turnout of oboes and bassoons so get your diaries organised and let us know that you wish to play. We would like to post the event on Facebook to celebrate International Double Reed Day. See below!

Mark your calendars!

December 16th will be International Double Reed Day
#InternationalDoubleReedDay

There is a variety of national and international holidays that are shared on social media every day. Some of these are started around official national or international holidays, and some are hashtags that go viral and are picked up by the search engines.

IDRS would like to join the movement and take a special day of the year to celebrate our international community and the beauty of double reeds.

We have chosen December 16th in honour of December 16, 1971 when the inaugural meeting of IDRS took place.

If you are on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, we encourage you to share our posts and post your own content with the hashtag #InternationalDoubleReedDay on December 16th! If you are not on social media, wish another double reed player happy International Double Reed Day via an email or in person! Or do extra practice!

Here are some other items of interest that are coming up soon:

  • November 23rd Ukaria. Madeleine Easton (violin), Celia Craig (oboe) and Joshua van Konkelenberg(organ/continuo) will present a program including the Bach Double Concerto for Oboe and Violin.
