UPDATE: The Open Section has been expanded to accept online video submissions for certain circumstances where competing in person may be inaccessible to the competitor. To enter the competition as an online entry, please register below for the Open Competition as normal and select the option of Online Entry, then after registering you will receive an email with further instructions on how to record and submit a video entry. Online submissions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on competitors' circumstances. Video recordings will be due by Friday, August 18th at 11:59 pm AEST. NOTE: This date has been changed to allow competitors more time to prepare a video, you must still register for the competition by the closing date of Sunday 13th August.
Time limit: 12 minutes including set piece
Eligibility: Open to candidates with a standard equivalent to AMEB Grade 7 and above. Professional players are not eligible. Set pieces must be performed with piano accompaniment with options to arrange one's own accompanist or use the official competition pianists provided by the ADRS.

Intermediate
Time limit: 8 minutes
Eligibility: Open to candidates with a standard equivalent to AMEB Grades 5-6.
Two contrasting works, at least one of which must have piano accompaniment.

Elementary
Time limit: 5 minutes
Eligibility: Open to candidates with a standard equivalent to AMEB Grades 3-4.
Two contrasting works, at least one of which must have piano accompaniment.

Beginner
Time limit: 4 minutes
Eligibility: Open to candidates with a standard equivalent to AMEB Grades 1-2.

Weekend Warrior & Friends
Time limit: 10 minutes
Eligibility: Open to candidates over age 18. Full-time professional players not
eligible. Secondary teachers are welcome.
1 work – solo performance or any combination of accompaniment/ensemble of up to 5 players
(must include at least one double-reed instrument).

Competition Rules
1. Places are strictly limited and entries will be processed in order of receipt.
2. Contestants may not enter multiple solo sections but should select the section which best fits their current skill level. Contestants are permitted to enter the Ensemble section as well as their appropriate solo section.
3. Other double reed instruments from the oboe and bassoon families may be played e.g. fagottino, contrabassoon, cor anglais, etc.
4. Time limits will be strictly adhered to. Appropriate cuts may be made to own choice works to conform to time limits.
5. All contestants must provide a photocopy of the music (piano part for accompanied works) on the day for use by the adjudicators. (This will be destroyed at the end of the day, in line with copyright laws.)
6. Prizes may be withheld or reduced where adequate standards are not met.
7. The adjudicators’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
8. All competitors will receive a written report after the announcement of the prize winners.
9. Previous 1st Prize winners in an ADRS National Competition (since 2009) may not enter the same section (or like section) they have already won. Please contact the Queensland State Representative if clarification is required (
10. Professional competition pianists will be available to all competitors for competition performances on the day. Rehearsals with these pianists are to be arranged by the competitor at their own expense. Competitors are welcome to provide their own pianists at their own expense.
