Local Bocal April 2025
Dear Double Reeders, A very late start to the year but we have all been extremely busy and various difficulties have impeded us. Here is some news and some dates for your diary.
Our 2 Christmas events went off very well at the end of last year. The residents of Pineview were extremely happy to hear us Carolling and are looking forward to our next performance there on June 22nd (further details below). The crowd at Ninth Avenue St Peters was equally thrilled.
Congratulations to all those who participated in various concerts and recitals around our fair City of Music during the Festival and Fringe.
Welcome back and congratulations to Hannah Kovilpillai who has been accepted into the Police Band.
Here are some dates for your diary. We have decided to postpone the Quiznic until closer to the end of the year. February/March seems to be soooo busy. We are still negotiating a date for our St John’s concert.
Put these dates in your diary and let us know that you will be attending.
Sunday June 22nd 2pm-4pm Big Blow/ Rehearsal for Concert at 4:30pm at Pineview.
Marryatville HS has been booked for the following dates. (Thanks, Josie!)
Sunday July 27th 2pm-4pm Performance Practice
Wednesday 15th October 7pm-9pm Performance Practice.
We have tentatively labelled these Performance Practice but they could incorporate other activities and they don’t have to be solo performances. Get up a group!
Please consider joining ADRS the national organisation for double reed players. This entitles you to discounts to our local activities, access to the very excellent journal, Reeding Matter edited by Josie Hawkes, discounted registration fees to our national competition and conference, and a wealth of other information. There has recently been a change-over of the President and Treasurer with our new President being Matthew Kneale, a great supporter of ADRSSA and the new Treasurer is Jill Noble one of our own. Jill plays in the Norwood Symphony Orchestra and is an active member of ADRSSA. Go to the website www.adrs.org.au to see the benefits of being a member and then join up. It is important to support the Society so that it can support you.
TEACHERS, please encourage your students to add their names to our mailing list so they will get information about sessions we are running or events they may wish to attend. We rely on you to let us know who your students are so that they can be included in our plans.
Best wishes,
